Handmade wearable sculptures: ‘WARRIOR WOMXN’

A way to secretly imbue the wearer with a wealth of powerful symbols of femininity. Sculptural armour for the modern womxn disguised as mere decoration.

The flora were carefully selected to convey their Victorian coded meanings and are set against a heavily textured background of repetitive symbolism. These icons appear abstract, but on closer inspection reveal the iconography of female power, struggle and desires.

The artist explains: "I worked closely with a second hand (and rather battered) copy of Henry Dreyfuss’ 1984 Symbol Sourcebook, a rich collection of codified graphic symbols famously utilised by Basquiet to develop my own powerful coded language."
