Ruup & Form: Live Performance - London - January 2025
LUNA was a live MRS ROE performance at Ruup & Form's central London gallery. Unfolding in quiet, active crafting the participants received kind instruction but no context for their creations, yet through their slow rhythms of threading, knotting, and clasping, lost wisdom resurfaced. Knowledge was embodied in fragile, handmade elements: salt dough beads infused with abortifacient herbs and a brass buttercup charm, recalling childhood games of self-doubt.
LUNA's participants were guided to make their own fertility tracking necklaces through MRS ROE's instruction and live crafting her oversized version. A response to the growth of tracking jewellery for American women as analogue replacement for their digital apps (now feared sites of surveillance). Instead of passively observing participants became the ritual, their bodies engaged in a communal act of making. This horizontal structure prioritised craft and collectivity over authority, reflecting a feminist ethos that values shared knowledge, mutual care, and community resilience.
As participants took their necklaces—and the knowledge they contain—back to their communities, this quiet act of crafting has become a form of embodied activism, ensuring that this knowledge, once lost, is reclaimed.
This was the last of 4x seasonal MRS ROE performances at the gallery leading to a solo exhibition in June 2025.
Thank you to all the participants for the genority of their time.
