Overview

The artist was awarded a full studio week to create new works for

MOTHER - a new strand of her MRS ROE practice rooted in her experience as a childless, peri-menopausal womxn to critique domestic and biological labour. Using bread as both material and metaphor, the fermenting sourdough starter - ‘the mother’ became a living form dependent on her care.

Through her persona MRS ROE, she reimagined motherhood as tending to microbial life, reframing nourishment as ecological reciprocity. The slow, interdependent process of fermentation embodied care, resistance, and renewal – transforming bread from sustenance into provocation.
